Grant me the life- boat of your feet

Grant me the life-boat of your feet. (Oh Mother). [1]
Day by day, as the days go by, that day is coming,
that is why, day and night, I keep calling you. (2)
I do not know what name to call you by.
You taught me 'Maa' and that is what I call you.
A son may turn out wrong, but never could a mother.
That is why, over and over, I keep calling you. (3)
At the edge of life, in a cemetery on the river bank,
this humble traveler sits by a tree of desire.
Comes that viper of time to sink its fangs in,
that is why, in fear, Mother, I call out to you. (4)
That seductress Maya takes me on to evil paths.
Show me the right way, as I burn away in pain.
My life is ending, Mother, that is why I keep calling you.
Give sanctuary to one adrift, Oh Mother, who offers refuge. (5)

Scripture and ritual I know not Mother

Scripture and ritual I know not Mother,
the little I know is this;
If I can call for you in the way I should
Then you have not the power to stay away. [1]

If at the door of your temple,
I shed tears in unending streams
so the world vanishes from my eyes,
then you would not have the power to stay away.
Oh Mother you do not have that power. (2)
I know I have many flaws but still, I do adore you.
With eyes closed, I always see your world enticing smile. (3)
All that I do is your work, it shames me to call them mine,
If I leave everything to seek refuge at your feet
Then you cannot keep away for the rest of my life
You do not have the power to do that. (4)

3. Roop jadi tor etoi bhalo
(Bengali song by Fatikchandra Gangopadhaya)

If you are so beautiful

If you are so beautiful,
why is a garland of skulls around your neck?
If Compassion is your name,
why is Shiva sprawling under your feet ?

She whose beauty sets this universe alight,
why Mother does she look so dark?
She whose mercy intoxicates this world
why is a scimiter in her hand?

4. Aamar maayer naamti
(Bengali song)

aamaar mayer naamti dayamoyee
bholaanaath baabaar naam [1]
maa jay-khaanay kol petechay shay aamaar kailaashdhaam

Compassion is my Mother’s name

Compassion is my Mother’s name,
my father is Bholanath 'the forgetful one'. [1]
Wherever my Mother waits for me,
that is my home, my Kailaash.
Chants and ritual I do not know,
I have no taste for the scriptures.
Filled with perpetual bliss, Mother and I are happy.
At Her feet, the bee of devotion,
is always chanting Her name.
My father is Bholanath 'the forgetful one'. (2)
What use to me are pilgrimages ?
Why travel to Gaya and Kashi?
Lighting up the lotus of my heart,
She stands there with unbraided locks.
At Her feet, the bee of devotion,
is always chanting Her name.
My father is Bholanath 'the forgetful one'. (3)

5. Maa aachen aar aami aachi

(baro) sneher aadhaar maa jay aamar, aami jay maa'r maa aamaar. (3)
maa aachen aar aaami aachi bhabnaa ki aachay aamar

We are here, me and my Mother

We are here, me and my Mother, what worries can I have.
She feeds and clothes me, She takes care of me. [1]
When in the quick-sand of life, everything turns dark,
She rescues us from that dangerous gloom. (2)
Though I may forget, She always keeps me in mind.
An ocean of affection, my Mother is mine, and I am Hers. (3)
We are here, me and my Mother, what worries can I have.

6. michay keno karish Chal
(Bengali song)

michay keno karish Chal, oray paagli may-ay lukitay thaykay,
duk-kha di-ay cheler monay, ki aananda paash Maa bal. [1]
naychay beraash swashaan maajhay, ki byathaa mor bakhay baajay

taatay jadi mawn naa phayray, rakta day bo ay buk chiray,
taar saathay mor miisihay daybo, bhaalobaashaar aashru-jawl. (4)

Why do you deceive with me

Why do you deceive me, you crazy girl, hiding from my sight.
What joy do you have bringing sorrow on your son? [1]
Dancing in the cremation grounds, what pain you bring to me.
Leave and come home Mother, rest your feet here for a moment. (2)
I will worship them with devotion, all my life.
Will fill your hands with blossoms of love. (3)
If even that does not change your mind,
will then draw blood form my chest,
will mix it with tears of love, to offer at your feet.
